what makes veritas unique?

  • Veritas Classical Schools recognize that God has ordained parents as the agents responsible for the academic and spiritual nurturing of their children.  We assist homeschooling parents by partnering with them to provide support and encouragement.
  • Students attend classes 1-2 days each week. Experienced teachers present new subject matter and skills. Students participate in lively discussions and activities, developing social skills during class, as well as recess and lunch. Our small class sizes are nurturing and encouraging for students of all levels.
  • Parents do not need to spend time selecting curriculum and organizing it for their school days - that has been done for you.  Parents can concentrate on their children, not on the planning of each day's work.
  • Students complete assignments at home as directed by the teacher, under supervision and assistance of a parent.  Assignment sheets are sent home weekly, and most students are semi-independent by 4th grade.
  • The humanities curriculum integrates Bible, history, literature, composition, geography, grammar, study skills, logic, critical thinking, vocabulary, and art appreciation. All classes are taught from a distinctly Christian perspective.
  • Parents do not stay with their children on class days. Many moms enjoy this day to spend time with younger children, plan for the week ahead, work at a part time job, or perhaps even to enjoy coffee or tea with a friend.
  • Students are responsible to the teacher for their assignments. Some students find this more motivating than turning in work to their parents. Upper level teachers record grades each week on a special website where parents can access them at any time.  Report cards are issued each semester. Students learn important skills such as working independently, organizing their work, and turning assignments in on time.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students learn early literacy skills in a peaceful, nurturing, encouraging environment. They build relationships and routines that will prepare them for success in first grade and beyond. Literature, poetry, music and art are a part of every kindergarten day! Weekly assignment packets guide families through a gentle introduction to learning, utilizing both written and hands-on activities focused on literacy.

Grammar School - Gr. 1-4

The curriculum for these grades will emphasize student exposure to and comprehension of core knowledge in literature, writing, grammar, vocabulary, history, geography, and fine arts. The Grammar School curriculum incorporates methods developed by Charlotte Mason, including narration, recitation, picture study, and sketching. Weekly assignments guide students and parents in preparation for next week's class.
